MODEL SENTENCES OF DIFFERENT TYPES FOR PRACTICE
ASSERTIVE SENTENCES:-
These are the sentences in which something is informed either done or not done. These sentences have subject, verb and object. To change them into indirect form, we do the following:
· We use “That” in place of commas.
· Say, said is not changed.
· Say to, said to is changed into tell or told.
They say, “ we did our duty well”.

They say that they did their duty well.
|
You said to him, “I am quite well today”.
|
You told him that you were quite well that day.
|
He will say, “I sing a song now”.
|
He will say that he sings a song now.
|
The boy said, “I shall go to Lahore tomorrow”.
|
The boy said that he would go to Lahore the next day.
|
He said to me, “I shall give you this pen”.
|
He told me that he would give me that pen.
|
INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES:-
The sentences in which something is asked, are the Interrogative Sentences. To change these sentences, we do the followings.
· If the sentences start with Interrogative Pronoun, i.e. W- words, we remove the commas and write the same word. Then use subject then other changes are made.
· If the sentence starts with some Helping Verb, we remove the commas and use Whether OR If. Then other changes are made.
She said, “Did you change your mind”?

She said if I had changed my mind.
|
I said to him, “Where are you going now?”
|
I asked him where he was going.
|
He said to me, “Was your brother ill today?”
|
He asked me whether my brother was ill that day.
|
He said to him, “How old are you?”
|
He asked him how old he was.
|
The teacher said to me, “What is your name?”
|
The teacher asked me what my name was.
|
IMPERATIVE SENTENCES:-
In these sentences, we order, request, advise something. These start with the first form of verb. If there is something forbidden, “Do not” is used before the first form.
To change these sentences , we do the followings.
· We use “To” after removing the commas. We use “Not to” in case of negative. Then first form of verb is used. If we use “Forbade”, then only use first form after “To”.
· “Said to” is replaced with Forbade, Asked, Ordered, Requested, Proposed, Advised” according to the context of the sentence.
· We never use “That” in these type of sentences.
· If “Let” is used for proposal, we use “Proposed” in place of “said” and “that should” in place of commas.
· If “Let” is used to seek Permission, we use “Requested” in place of “Said” and “To +First form” in place of commas.
I said to my servant, “Polish my shoes”.

I ordered my servant to polish my shoes.
|
He said to me, “ Please help in the study”.
|
He requested my to help him in the study.
|
The judge said, “Call the next witness”.
|
The judge ordered to call the following witness.
|
They said to me, “Let’s go for a walk”.
|
They proposed me that they should go for a walk.
|
He said to his sister, “Do not sit there”.
|
He forbade his sister to sit there.
|
EXCLAMATORY SENTENCES:-
In these sentence, extreme joy, sorrow or wonder are expressed. To change these sentences, we do the followings.
· “Said” is changed into “Exclaimed with sorrow, Joy or Wonder” according to the context.
· The exclamatory words i.e Hurrah, Alas, What, Oh, Wow etc are removed.
· We use “That” in place of commas.
· The sentence is changed into simple.
The doctor said, “Alas! The patient has died”.

The doctor exclaimed with sorrow that the patient had died.
|
The boys said, “Hurrah! We have won the match”.
|
The boys exclaimed with joy that they had won the match
|
He said, “Oh! It is not good”.
|
Exclaimed with wonder that that was not good.
|
The teacher said, “Bravo! You have done well”.
|
The exclaimed with joy that I had done well.
|
She said, “Alas! My brother failed in the NTS test”.
|
She exclaimed with sorrow that her brother had failed in NTS test.
